What you say IS possible of course. But the chances of it being deliberate are very small. Losing power 500 metres out meant the vessel was out of control since steering is conducted electronically, like fly-by-wire in aircraft. To have this as a plan to take out the bridge is far-fetched since you would be relying on a complex calculation of river currents, wind, vessel momentum to hit the bridge at exactly the right point. If that was your intent you would leave the steering intact and guide the ship to the right point, covering up the steering commands in some way. Accidents DO happen, some of them involving incidents that are extremely unlucky, like a tree just happening to be in the path. I think we will find this is one of those.
The accident occurred on the day of an eclipse. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon were lined up, amplifying the effect of high tide. Marine charts show clearances under bridges based on high tide water levels, and both the pilot and the ship's Sailing Master would know this. They would cross reference both the marine chart and the tide tables.

In this video it is clear that the ship lost power at least twice and that after the first time she start3d puffing smoke from her stack. It is clear the vessel suffered a loss of power casualty thereby losing steerage. That said, it is being reported that the company is DEI captured. If this is the case, then the possibility of under qualified watch standers causing this accident is a possibility and one that requires investigation.
