I have a high school diploma. All those around me at work have college degrees, PhDs, etc. So how could I see this scam and they couldn't? They put their faith in the systems, I don't.

PhDs, not so much. The working class, together with PhDs had the lowest uptake; it was the Dunning–Kruger midwits (college degrees/doctors etc.) who took them, and many also pushed them relentlessly on others.
Actually, I read somewhere that the PhD's had lower uptake than the average college graduates. IDK though.
