Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has received much attention after a lustful comment from his official TikTok account emerged.
Responding to a post from OnlyFans model Tyler Idol, the comment from September 2022 reads, “Wow” with heart emojis.
“Yes, it’s real,” 𝕏 influencer @_johnnymaga wrote on social media, attaching a video that confirmed pressing the account from the comment in question is indeed linked to Kennedy’s TikTok account.
Kennedy has faced previous allegations related to his personal life, particularly around his behavior towards his former wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy. Reports suggest a period of distress for Mary due to RFK Jr.’s divorce and subsequent public romance with actress Cheryl Hines, contributing to her tragic end.
Kennedy’s Response
You would imagine Kennedy’s wife of now nine years, Cheryl Hines, would not be thrilled to hear her husband was engaging with what is often referred to as “thirst trap” content on TikTok. However, Kennedy contends that he did not make that comment.
On 𝕏, the presidential candidate asked, “Do people really think I was TikToking in 2022?”
Kennedy continued in the comments of this post to explain his side of the story:
The TikTok comment in question was made in 2022 long before I ever had a TikTok account. This comment now appears on my account because the account was previously owned by one of the campaign’s young social media managers.
When I announced my run for the presidency in April of 2023 the team wanted it broadcasted on every social media platform, including TikTok. However, TikTok does not allow live streaming for accounts that have less than 1,000 followers. The social media manager decided to transfer his account, which had around 1,500 followers, to me in order to stream my announcement on TikTok.
Campaign Response
The Kennedy campaign has attributed the posting of the comment to a younger campaign staffer, pinpointing Rijoun Murphy, a 33-year-old social media manager from Georgia. Murphy, who initially owned the account, transferred it to the campaign in 2023.
Campaign personnel stated that Murphy chose to hand over his account, which boasted over 1,000 followers, to the presidential contender to enable the live streaming of Kennedy’s announcement on TikTok.
Kennedy spokeswoman Stefanie Spear issued a statement on the matter.
The Daily Mail reported:
When Mr. Kennedy announced his run for the presidency in April of 2023 the team wanted it broadcasted on every social media platform, including TikTok,' she [Spear] said.
'However, TikTok does not allow live streaming for accounts that have less than 1,000 followers.'
And as Kennedy did not have an account, he couldn't immediately have 1,000 people following him – even if he hoped to get rather more than that number to cast their votes for him come November.
'The social media manager decided to transfer his account which had more than 1,000 followers to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in order to stream Kennedy's announcement on TikTok,' said Spear.
According to Spear, this meant that all Murphy's previous personal comments were re-labeled as coming from the Kennedy campaign account – including the amorous message to the porn star.
Another Kennedy aide reached out to TikTok for help defusing the budding scandal. 'We have a bit of a weird situation unfolding here and need your help to ascertain what happened,' emailed an aide identified as 'Amaryllis'.
She said the campaign had assumed Kennedy's comment had been photoshopped but then realized it wasn't.
'Given that other social media platforms do not allow users to change their name without documentation of name change, we were confused about what was going on,' added Amaryllis.
But then she answered her own question.
'Rijoun concluded that since RFK had not previously had an account, he would have no followers on Day One and therefore decided that he would repurpose his own account, which had just over 1,000 followers, to be sure he could complete his task.
'In the rush of his preparation, it never occurred to him that any previous comments he had made would then be attributed to RFK.'
