ever since I served, I have suffered irregular sleep. VA sleep center said common to

vets. My service began with shift work (irregular with back to back) and standing OOD watches

at commands & later

calls in the middle of the night when I was at the Pentagon etc.

My internal clock was rewound and not for the better

I no longer suffer same due to a cocktail that works wonders (take it 45" before bedtime)

All are encapsulated and OTC:

180mg Magnesium Glycinate

6mg of Melatonin (delayed release)

50mg 5HTP

200mg L-theanine

I am asleep almost as soon as I get into bed and IF

I need to get up during the night, as I did last night, I can go back to sleep

I wake up in AM without a hangover.

It sure took me long enough to figure it all out

Much better alternative, just be cautious with the melatonin; some more recent studies on it are finding links to cardiac arrhythmias that aren't gone ignored. The rest have no such issues I know of, at present.

Expand full comment

I don’t believe any studies these days. I tend to do the opposite of what they say.

Expand full comment

I'm cautious about what I believe. But I have nursing education and experience on which to judge that too.

Expand full comment

Exactly. Who pays for the study, pays to find the results THEY WANT... not the real results...

Expand full comment

Did those studies happen during covid, the reason I wonder is melatonin was said to help or prevent covid, like many other otc medicines a lot of those got pulled for various reasons after being around for years. Pepcid & Zantac to name a few.

Expand full comment

I'm not sure, but arrhythmias may or may not be related to covid, and can be fatal if ignored.

While they are common from the jab. Heart inflammation...

They come from other causes as well.

And by the way, I started to use melatonin with 10mg pills when I moved into an apartment building. Never affected my heart. And I have smoked marijuana for over 40 years, and doing that increases substantially the amount of melatonin produced by our pineal gland. I imagine why that's why a nice Indica blunt puts me to sleep.

I think any research done for medicine, by medicine, is BIASED. I have found 6 research papers also saying the same thing. And they want to increase profit for what they sell. Which is why colloidal silver ( my antibacterial) , nattokinase which I use instead of low dose aspirin, my low carb diet ( which cured diabetes and dropped 50 lbs from this old mans body )and my other natural remedies like magnesium are lied about by the profit whores.

With magnesium, they say with caution, "it may affect those taking blood pressure meds", instead of saying," test for and try magnesium for your blood pressure and arrhythmia, since it is a regulator of the heart rhythm and blood pressure. 500mg a day dropped my upper and lower blood pressure values by 10 and I have not had a bad episode of arrhythmia since I started using that amount..

fear, fear, fear. Don't take melatonin, you will stroke out from an arrhythmia.

Expand full comment

Sure they do. I have had chronic V tach since I was 13 years old. I have had 3 unsuccessful attempt at ablation, so I have learned to live with it for over 50 more years. Arrhythmia used to be somewhat rare, it is now somewhat common after the injectable heart inflammation called "safe and effective".

One word of advice to ANYONE with an arrhythmia. STOP using aspartame. And even those without. I have always refused medications, not wanting the added side effects. But at one time the arrhythmia got very frequent, and they brought fainting and weakness. So I went to the doctor for his pills I had originally refused. I went to the pharmacist to fill the script, and she asked what they were for. After I told her my condition, and its increased severity, she asked me "do you drink diet soda with aspartame?"

I said yes, realizing I had started drinking diet soda with aspartame about the same time the arrhythmias got so bad. I did that, for diabetes concerns in my family. And I drank a lot of it.

She told me that airline pilots were not allowed to use it, because of the potential effect on heart rhythm.

I stopped the aspartame and never used the pills, and was soon back at the occasional episode incipient of too much coffee. These episodes I can control with magnesium and the occasion hard cough during an episode.

60 + years old, still kicking.

It was this revelation, which eventually led to my refusal of so called medicines like statins, vaccines, blood pressure meds, diabetes pills( I beat diabetes with diet alone) and basically all systemically used medications.

Never took the clot shot because I knew what mRNA was. And I realized that no one knew the risks, including the drug pushers at big pharma.

The biggest cause of arrhythmia today, is from the heart inflammation incipient of the clot shot.

Never have had any problem with cardiac arrhythmia

The issues for me were severe

NO sleep or interrupted sleep and a large host of other

problems

Sometimes getting 5 hours with repeated wake ups

It made me a zombie during the day and could go on for days as it sometimes did

prior to my 'cocktail'

I have no pituitary, surgically removed due to tumor, and I seriously wonder if my hypothalmus is not working correctly due to its relationship to the pituitary

It regulates sleep

They tried me on meds e.g. Ambien which left me knocked out as soon as I

got into bed but 2 hours later I was wide awake and unable to go back to sleep

because so wired.

When they suggested other 'sleep' remedies I did research and it was NOT

what I wanted as I was already dealing with problems of PanHypoPit

My attempted transphenoid adenectomy of the secretory pituitary tumor they thought they saw damaged my hypothalamus enough that it tried to kill me twice during my 11 day stay at Emory.

Most people have "smart" utility meters, smart appliances, TVs, radiation emitting devices and wifi, are exposed to massive amounts of radiation in the community and at home. Children massively exposed 24 hrs a day. All known to cause insomnia. Yet it is not acknowledged. We live in insane times.

Linda, Last week I was able to add to my anecdotal experience (read: evidence) that this is true. One morning last week, after a night of tossing and turning (and giving up for a few hours to do paperwork in the middle of the night) a huge limb fell into the street from a large oak tree about 5 houses down from me. That’s about 300 feet max. It was about 7am. It managed to take out the power feed for a multiple block radius. It snapped a crucial pole into 3 pieces, ripping wires and cables asunder. The main power was out along with cable tv, everyone’s wifi and the two squat 5G towers serving my vicinity. Obviously the 4G LTE stuff further away was still active but my cell phone died anyway as I had just plugged it in to charge just before this happened. Besides 3G 4G cell signals are weak in my area. Not having to go into work until afternoon I decided to lay down on the front room couch for a while with the front windows open since the air was cool even though I knew all the noise of repairs would be loud. Well. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and I slept profoundly deeply and soundly for four straight hours. I was completely out. I haven’t slept like that in a few years. And this was with the electric company diesel trucks going by my window, chainsaws cutting up that giant 12 inch diameter limb, the machines to drill a new hole for a new pole, running wires, cars turning around in my driveway since the road was blocked etc. I didn’t hear any of it. Slept right through it all. I woke refreshed and realized the power recently came back on. And I haven’t slept well since. For what it’s worth, this is what happened. A similar outage occurred 7 or 8 years ago with pretty much the same result.

Expand full comment

When I moved from my old home away from high power lines into a home nearby but outside of the range of the high power lines, my sleep improved. Thought it was noise at the time. Realize now fewer ppl in that area had the smart meters etc. New home in Florida has one, thinking of getting it removed, area full of antenna. No longer have the smart TV or anything like that, unplugging wifi at night putting cell phone to bed etc etc. But still sleep best when in a cabin in the Adirondacks!

GHB (Xyrem) is not addictive when used properly. During the three studies by Orphan Medical, not one person using GHB became addicted. Only two studies were mandated by the Orphan-Drug Act, but not one person became addicted in the three (3) FDA-supervised studies required by the FDA for approval. I am in possession of the court documents surrendered by the FDA for full disclosure, so this is a well documented accounting of the facts.

All the addicted people used GHB around the clock, in contravention of proper use. So nobody needs to hear the "facts" presented by the police to gullible reporters.

Expand full comment

Could you give me a copy of these so I can add them to the article?

Expand full comment

I can give them to somebody. It's a full case of papers, thousands of pages. Likely between 50 and 100 pounds. The FDA also delivered them out of order. Like deck of shuffled cards. The FDA was compelled by court order to surrender the documents, but they did not have to deliver them in good condition, so they did not. Petty bureaucratic acting out. This really shows their true colors. I certainly do not need these documents, but they might have historical value to somebody. Adding these documents online would be marvelous for anybody doing research, but who would want to (1) sort them into order, and (2) scan them into gigabytes of storage?

Expand full comment

What a lot of people don't know is that the book scanners now are amazing and very fast. You could probably scan then in 2 or 3 days with one that's around 200 dollars on Amazon, and then upload them to a free online service to get them OCR'd and when it's all said and done, have it be a small enough file that it could be shared online and easily used by researchers who want to make things right on this.

I often scan and OCR old books for the articles I write because I need an easy way to quickly search them for specific things I cover. I can't help you with the digitalization process, since I have to stay anonymous, but if you say where you are located. I could probably put out a call for someone in your area to help with this and pick a reader who's commented for a while (so I know they are real), and then once that's done, get it hosted online so everyone else can have access to this.

As far as I understand you can’t. It’s not like getting Ivermectin. Since it was labeled a “schedule I” drug nobody is going to risk their license or career helping anyone get it, not even a properly formulated product from outside the country the way they can get Ivermectin. The biggest sign of the fraud involved is how they made an over-priced schedule III drug out of it to profit from, but for something to be a schedule I, there isn’t supposed to be any other formulation/schedule of it that is considered safe. Too many things about how they handled this drug are suspicious.

A couple things I am trying (I got a couple ideas from the article itself as alternatives, and he is really good in the article explaining dosing, pros, cons, and how to be careful):

1) Alteril - (not in article) I’ve used this for years. It is taken 1 hour before desired sleep. It does get me to sleep easily, but my biggest problem is I wake up in the middle of the night and I can never get back to sleep. It doesn’t help me personally with that.

2) CalmsForte - doesn’t seem to work for me as good as Alteril for getting to sleep. No help with getting back to sleep after waking up. But I use it on the nights I use melatonin “spray” (below)

3) Valerian Root by Now brand - Just started to try this as it works for a friend. She is much, much younger than me and that may be why it works well for her but not quite for me? She says the tea form is better but it smells bad. I’ve only tried the capsule form twice so far but it has about the same effect as Calms Forte so far.

4) Liposomal Melatonin spray: I bought the recommended DaVinci brand. It is sprayed into the mouth to bypass the digestive system and stomach acid and provide melatonin directly to the brain. I use this in conjunction with the Calms Forte or the Valerian Root to “get to sleep”, and then if I wake up middle of night I do another squirt or two. It always takes me another hour or two to fall back asleep due to the anxiety in my mind about not being able to, but I eventually DO get another hour of sleep when I have used this that way. So far I’ve done it 3x and it worked all 3x. It is not recommended to use this long term indefinitely, more for an occasional as needed basis when you absolutely need some help. I never use this with Alteril because Alteril already has the same amount of melatonin in it, however since Alteril goes through the stomach first it’s not as helpful for getting back to sleep after waking up.

Read the article too as there are several other recommendations/ideas he shares. A really good and long section of alternatives.

I'm a male in my late 60's. My biggest issue with interrupted sleep is if I drink too much liquid after about 6 pm. I then have to get up 4-5 times a night to use the bathroom.

Besides the bathroom breaks, the mind plays a 90% role in trouble falling asleep and getting quickly back to sleep after a bathroom interruption. I used to be very good about clearing my mind which allows me to fall back asleep. However, thinking about anything, keeps the mind active and, does not facilitate getting back to sleep. When this happens, I pray, recite the Lord's prayer, Psalm 23 (one of the few versus I have memorized). This usually works.

On very rare occasions, because I know they are addictive, is I take a Temazepam. Mine are way over their expiration date but, like most things past the expiration date, they still work just fine. I only do this to break a pattern of difficulty getting a good nights rest.

We now live in Clown World. Everything is upside down and anything can happen. Although I am not fearful, I am still engaged with what is going on and it is very discouraging at times to know that the America I grew up in, is goin, and is not coming back.

Female here. I just turned 59 and you describe exactly what I face too. I refuse to be placated by the excuse “well your older now, it just is what it is”. That’s lazy diagnosing and treating. Sort of like a “too bad so sad, cya next time” I’m starting to avoid all doctors.

I struggle so badly turning off my thoughts after getting up to pee. It’s tortuous. I think I’ll try your reciting of Bible verses. I use dark mode on my phone for the Bible app, but I often wonder if I still get too much stimulating blue light that way so have been afraid to whip out my phone. Especially with the WiFi waves being suspicious of interfering with our sleep cycle? Does my kindle paperwhite have the same interference when not connected to WiFi or 5G? Is its backlight too much for my basal ganglia too? If I grab a book or Bible in print, what reading light won’t interfere? All of them are LED now. I love reading and believe it would help if I knew the best way to do it while laying in bed so I could quickly catch the drowsy wave when it comes.

Expand full comment

One last thing on this topic. I usually go to bed to read about an hour before turning out the lights. I'm thinking it might be a mistake doing the reading in bed. (I use a Kindle app on my iPad for most reading). I have a comfortable chair and ottoman in the bedroom that I think I am going to use and then when ready, go to bed and turn out the light.

I've read that laying in bed and watching TV and then turning out the light was always a no-no for the issues we are having -- getting to sleep. Maybe the same thing applies to reading? IDK.

Once again, the main thing, is not letting the mind go off on thinking of stuff. It must be cleared and not allowed to progress as soon as it wants to go there. Once the mind starts the process, it seems to take on a mind of its own! LOL.

Best of luck!

GHB is now 100x more expensive as Xyrem than three decades ago as a generic, over-the-counter supplement. This is especially tragic to elders because GHB not only improves sleep architecture for the deepest phases of sleep, it enhances growth hormone release during those deepest phases of sleep. This has an a health and anti-aging effect. So the FDA's political maneuvering has sacrificed the health of seniors for highly questionable, possibly illegal, and anti-public-health purposes.

It is especially sad that this travesty was not covered by media. This took place more than two decades ago, and the reporters could not tell that GHB (gamma-hydroxy butyrate) and GBH (great bodily harm) were dyslexic creations of police experts in collusion with the FDA and DEA.

As a wise man wrote, "I risked my life serving this country to protect my family, but now I'd risk my life protecting my family from the government."

Since GHB other than Xyrem brand is Schedule-I (a felony for possession of any detectable amount, and it is detectable in the human body and in hundreds of foods, all US citizens are unconvicted felons, and all grocery chains, farmers and fermented alcoholic vendors are unconvicted felons for possession with intent to sell tons of a Schedule-I controlled substance.

I had a lot of overzealous dentistry as a kid because we had really good insurance. At least that’s what I think happened.

Consequently, all of that early in life dental work, of course needs maintenance as you age and I have intentionally put many years between each dental visit, to prolong the life of my teeth. (I’ve done the same with the eye doctor. When I went every year, I had new contacts every year. When I go every five years, yes, I get new contacts, but I bet they are a fifth as strong as they would be if I went every year. I need to just do those damn exercises!) 😂

There are definitely some things I would have done to my teeth, if there were some nontoxic options, and I keep hoping that if I wait a bit longer, they will present themselves. (My sister married into a family of orthodontists and even she had had a root canal go bad, causing suicide headaches for five years, until she had a surgery that just severed the nerves. Unbelievable.)

It then occurred to me, that we should sue the patent office for all of the dental discoveries that have been hidden from us, as well as all of the other things that are being kept from us.

I have always believed that we already have solutions for everything and once again, they use things like the patent office against us, so that we can continue to be cash cows we’ve always been.

It is addictive. Period. I know for a fact it is. If you take small amounts for the right reasons then the withdrawals might be minimum but 1 mL three times per day for a few months and you will have a physical addiction. It's a CNS depressant but the withdrawals are not as bad as benzos. You can not take it with alcohol. It will make you sick and possibly cause respiratory seizure.

Expand full comment

It it’s used a few times a week or at most once daily for sleep, how does that approach the usage you describe to support addiction?

Expand full comment

It is used twice a night, one dose to give 3 hours of sleep and then, after a pause of 10-30 minutes, a second done to give another 3 hours of sleep. This is the protocol used in the FDA studies conducted by Orphan Medical back in the 90s. Nobody in the studies became addicted, despite using GHB for years straight. This leaves 16-17 hours between doses.

Even Orphan Medical (and now Jazz Pharmaceuticals) do not give proper instructions for optimizing the doses. They state that the same dose is used for both. This is a mistake. Users want the dose to wear off with harmony with the natural sleep cycles, so users get two full sleep cycles with the first dose, and two more full sleep cycles with the second dose. This is rarely the same dose the second time. The ideal dosing is characterized by the dream content of the wake up phase. If users wake up in the dopamine-rebound phase, their dose is too small, indicated by the disturbing dream qualities (obsessive, compulsive, fear, fright, scary, trapped, repeating, etc.). If people wake up in the beginning of their third sleep cycle, they do not feel rested and their dose is too high.

Each person has a different set of first and second doses, and those doses can drift with time.

Expand full comment

Sounds tricky and impractical for a consumer

Expand full comment

Not really. Anybody with narcolepsy knows that anything that works is worth any investment of getting it right. Other sleep problems are of lesser, but comparable importance to health and wellbeing. The attenuation effect of the dose drifting over time is exactly the same metabolic phenomenon seen with alcohol, which is not a problem for most consumers. The trickiness depends on the relative importance of the benefits. Living longer, feeling better and seeing your grandkids grow up is more than enough for most seniors.
