This is a fantastic move, and I’ll tell you why. Remember, it was not long when the government colluded with Twitter to silence dangerous “COVID misinformation,” including info that came from legitimate doctors and esteemed scientists who disagreed with the official government narrative.
It might be a bastion of free speech but the security protocols on Telegram are extremely poor. I subscribe to 7 channels and comment on them infrequently but I regular get spoof messages from people pretending to be the channel host and using their images. Telegram does nothing to stop this.
In my experience, shadow banning and other "soft censorship" practices do exist on Telegram, as well as other platforms traditionally equated with conservative viewpoints. Especially when I've found myself "ahead of the curve" in regards to the "timing" of certain disclosures; which ultimately led me to the conclusion that Right, Left, or In-Between; it's pretty much ALL Controlled Narrative.
I no longer participate with any other platform than Substack, which IS consistently a "Bastion of Free Speech".
Originally established in St. Petersburg, Telegram was forced to leave Russia for Dubai due to "IT regulations". The UK, Europe and Singapore were not options either, so Dubai it was. Everyone should know the server locations of the SM apps they support. Especially if it's California or Canada.
Except that Apple and Google somehow have control of the apps and can block you from seeing content and comments in the apps.
I had an Android phone and went to telegram’s website and downloaded their version on my Android phone and that got me around Google’s censorship. Now I have Apple so I tried to do the same thing but telegram’s website won’t load on my stupid phone. I don’t understand how these companies can interfere with what consumers can see or not see. Also, if they have the power to do this with telegram, why are they not doing the same with X?
LOL!! Why was Timothy Winey banned?? I thought what he wrote was a hilarious comment on the difficulties involved in being an AI chatbot programmer -- and (more pertinently perhaps) the ease with which readers' perceptions can be manipulated by judicious use of language. That is, it's possible to send an entirely erroneous message in such a way that you can't be prosecuted for lying.
Meanwhile, I'd love to subscribe to the Telegram thingeys in question, but my computer is too old to accept the Telegram app. :-(
So he's backtracking again. He got on Twitter because it was supposedly the only free-speech platform available. Some of us knew that Twitter is still not free-speech, and that Telegram is; but somehow Tucker was still in the dark on this? MAYBE his intentions are good, but he's still playing us (like the rest of the white hats), and I don't like to be deceived. What was his real reason for lying about Twitter? I don't trust him.
Endorsing Biden because you see Trump as an existential threat makes no sense. Replacing Biden with a sharp, anti-corruption candidate would be the thing to do in that case. The fact that the DNC won’t replace Biden with RFK Jr. tells us their real fear is an end to their racket.
Remember when those of us with “wrong-think” were kicked out of social media like FB, Twitter & YouTube and they said “if you don’t like it, go make your own sites”? So we did! So many great platforms were created and many continue to thrive. It’s great to see Telegram expanding for exactly that reason, cuz screw them!
