It is about how 'courageously confronting the world, the big scary, adversity--shoulder to shoulder, arm in arm, holding hands--how that is both magnetic and adhesive to the human spirit. I, too, am new to faith. Listened to the Jordan Peterson "Biblical lectures" 5-6 years ago. He is the first person to make me curious about Scripture in 35+ years. I decided to read the Bible again, but with an open mind and curiosity--and to see if I can 'prove' what I read in the Bible in my experience in the world.
I had no idea how many thoughts, idioms and sayings of 'conventional wisdom' are all Biblical. As my faith in the material crumbled, I found faith in the transcendent.

Thank you Jamie. I retired eight years ago and have tried a few different things: training, recruiting/job placement--but none of it has deeply resonated. I've finally come to the conclusion that I need to write. I have a book in me--"Collective Suffering: The Skeleton Key to Building Trust, Compassion, and Cooperation" that I need to get out. It is about how 'courageously confronting the world, the big scary, adversity--shoulder to shoulder, arm in arm, holding hands--how that is both magnetic and adhesive to the human spirit. It is our 'adaptive advantage'. It is how we find agape. It is the only thing we have as ballast against the ever-present, existential terror of being. All we have is each other. There is no material safety--the only safety exists when we are tightly bound together fighting to build/create/confront something.
There are times, usually in a fit of 'stream of consciousness' writing, when I am able to tap into the right way to express myself in the written word.
We are in scary times. We have been talking about a vegetable garden for past 8 years--never making it happen for one reason or another. Not this year. We will get some food planted this spring. I'm uncertain if we'll actually see an Election Day.
This all sounds so hyperbolic, but that is likely how everyone felt just before Civil War, WWI, WWII...slowly, slowly, suddenly. Cyber attack. No electricity, no phones, no water. Then the uneducated, unskilled, undisciplined masses will begin breaking into homes for food...

Localism not globalism used to be my motto, but in the digital age with the invention of the internet, it seems globalism is now part of the equation. I prefer the simpler times when our information came from printed paper sources (less distractions, no links to click on, no pop-up windows, it was better for long term memory retention), the digital age rapidly invaded our homes and personal carry-on products that the people who uses those technologies haven't caught up with the latest science on its effect on the human brain. So, as a Generation X that grew into adulthood in the "analog age," I prefer now practicing digital detox, and focusing more on localism again. Maybe a sense of globalism isn't going away in the digital age, so we have to adapt to it, but radical globalism by egomaniacs needs a Trump to push back on their nefarious agenda.
