From my n of one... My wife and I have owned two cars in the last 23 years. A 2001 first gen Prius which we retired at the crusher last year. We bought a Prius V in 2012 which now has 232,000 miles on it. Going strong, but it's time to get a new car. We paid 20k for the 2001 and $30k for the 2012. Avg car price has gone from $38k to $50k b/w 2020 and 2023. A new electric car for us would look like 60k, given our age, class, wealth, etc. We ain't doin it. We are getting a Kia Soul for $28k. All gas. No electric. 30mph. We are splurging for heated from seats, for the first time in our lives. We live in northern New England.

We are buying a new non electric/hybrid for the first time in nearly 25 years. We are thrilled to go all gas, partly cause of economics but also to get off the electric bandwagon. A mild political statement with good ole fashioned Yankee thrift!

You might want to make sure you get ALL the warranty coverage you can get if you buy a Kia or Hyundai. You’ll need it.

I’ve had/have two hyundai’s and they’ve been great! I don’t know anything about Kia’s, but the Hyundai’s haven’t given us issues.

Later model Hyundai and Kia used the same engine. 60k kms was average lifespan. Plan accordingly.

I have a 2005 and a 2018 hyundai. My 2005 has 180,000 and my 2018 has 114,000.

Did the same. Traded my Prius hybrid for a new (gas) subaru. Awesome vehicle.

Bought our last new car (hopefully) in 2020. A Subaru. Gas. We’re middle 70’s. Our previous car was going good yet after 16 years. Gas. Electric? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Ramaswamy needs to keep his enthusiasm, but he needs to realize that humans are DIRECTLY engaged in MANIPULATING the WEATHER. And the politicians are LYING to the people. Dane Wigington has been telling us for YEARS that jets are carrying sprayers to spray chemicals into any little cloud to make MORE cloud cover, which blocks out the sun, and rains into all the bodies of water around the world. American govt started it long time ago, then weaponized it. What do you think HAARP in Alaska is for? Please use duckduckgo to search Dane Wigington, as he has documentary SHOWING what's been going on, called The Dimming. He has had experts who have found chemicals and metals in the spray itself, plus in rainwater and snow melt. And by the way, China has the means to have joined with American govt to keep it going. It's killing people, animals, vegetation, trees... I have seen this junk coming down and have seen my own view of the skies where I am watching jets criss-crossing lines in the sky, and some even turn while spraying to meet up with another jets trail.. The sky is no longer dazzling blue like it was this time of year..

I saw The Dimming last year it was very good.

Thank you for telling the truth about weather manipulation! How is this huge issue being ignored? The earth is being poisoned daily and no one is talking about it!

"Let’s be grateful …"?

Our southern border is hemorrhaging replacements with extravagant logistical sophistication and unimaginable expense, our compliant genetically altered neighbors are ticking timebombs, their children illiterate zombies, our cities war zones and self-styled "thought leaders" optimistically ruminate about gas guzzlers and meat? NO!

You refer to: "DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)" ideology. There is no God (deus, dei) in this usurped acronym. It should correctly be stated as, DIE ideology.

It is after all, a biological, economic, moral and ethical dead end.

I've personally use the same: D.I.E. - Division, Inequity and Exclusion

This is great news! Thanks for your amazing reporting. Happy New Year, too. This is going to be a big one - the fate our America hangs in the balance.

Any remaining true capitalism is swimming in a pool full of every kind of socialism known to man.

Suggest you amend your use of the DEI acronym to DIE (as per Prof Gad Saad whose book The Parasitic Mind should be required reading for all as an antidote to all the parasites of the mind)

What most of these car manufacturers do not seem to understand is half of our planet is still developing and that development's life's blood is gasoline. Not only do we still have countries in which fields are plowed with oxen or horse, these countries use petroleum powered vehicles for absolutely everything. Its like these manufacturers are oblivious to the real world.

Expand full comment

I believe the car manufacturers do understand this very well. They are having to comply with government edicts. Absent government edicts there is no way they would go along with this horseshit, and I would still have my much beloved Audi diesel that they recalled.
