Highly recommend reading all the Federalist papers as well as other extra-constitutional documents. The Constitution was not a product of wealthy white men by any means. Read about the thought processes and struggles that went into the construction of the Constitution. It is important that any reading be interpreted within the context of the "real world" at that time. I'm oversimplifying a bit but if abolishing slavery was written into the Constitution, then it would have never been ratified. Those "white oligarchs" understood the long game in as much as the short game with establishing a new form of government. A Republic wherein your inalienable Rights are granted by God and not by any individual(s) nor legislation was categorically a seismic shift in how a governed nation operates . It wasn't that slavery was horse traded for ratifying the Constitution. They new that slavery would need to be addressed later; as it was definitively at great cost, including the life one of the greatest Presidents ever elected. The bastardization of the Constitution is a direct result of the democratically elected and by extension those whom they appointed the the Judicial Branch wherein unconstitutional judicial precedents are created. The inequity you noted is not a by product of our Constitutional Republic as outlined in the Constitution. Rather, it is directly attributed to the democratic election and more recently the non-democratic selection of individuals who neither represent their constituents nor operate within the restraints set forth by the Constitution.
